A Moment of Gratitude
Step away from your life and go outside!
Mindful Movements (Asanas)
While flowing gently, we practice the synchronization of our movement to our breath…
Lion’s Breath (Simhasana)
Remove ego and muster courage by roaring like a lion!
Bee’s Breath (Bhramari)
Bhramari, or the “bees breath,” facilitates a meditative state. It is calming yet warming and facilitates a more meditative state.
Drawing Your Attention Inward (Antahkarana)
Antahkarana is a process of moving inward and focusing on the body... more specifically, your “inner instrument.” Become more aware of the space of your body, breath and mind.
Mantra: So’ham
So’ham is an ancient, powerful, but simple mantra that connects the body and mind to our essential divinity—and to the present moment. The Gheranda Samhita teaches that this mantra rides on the breath and resonates in the mind. According to Rolf Sovik, “Reciting the so hum mantra leads to the clarity of self-awareness.”
Basic Meditation for Breath Awareness
Practice anchoring yourself to the sensations of your breathing. Use the breath to calm the mind.
Gazing at a Flame (Trāṭaka)
Trāṭaka is a practice of concentration. By focusing on a candle flame—an external object—we bring the mind into stillness. To prepare: light a candle and place it a couple feet in front of you.
Sway the Spine (Suṣumnā) Meditation
Become absorbed in the energy of the spine by swaying like a blade of grass.
As you become able to meditate for longer periods of time, you might like to practice some warming physical postures prior to sitting in stillness.
